A Warm Welcome from Our Family at Hale Prep School

Founded in 1980 by John Connor, we are an independent, co-educational family-owned school, His philosophy was that every child is brimming with potential and that it was his job and privilege to help them fulfil it. This remains true today and our mission is to create a safe and nurturing environment where every child is supported and inspired to reach their full potential. We believe that learning should be an enjoyable journey, enriched by a diverse curriculum and a variety of extracurricular activities that spark creativity and foster teamwork.

One of the greatest assets of our school is our small, friendly environment where children of all abilities and backgrounds flourish. We are able to offer wonderful pastoral care and our small class sizes mean every child receives individual attention and support, promoting their emotional and social well-being.

In the classroom each child receives personalised guidance and our strong culture means our teaching and support team choose to stay with us for many years – allowing us to develop strong relationships with our pupils that extend beyond their immediate year groups.  We know all of the children well and as they progress through the school, we are able to work with and support them, alongside their parents, to prepare them for the next stage of their education, wherever this may be.  

From Reception onwards, our experienced team provide specialist teaching across all subjects, and our broad curriculum includes three languages and 13 subjects, making learning exciting and encouraging exploration and discovery. We offer a diverse sporting activities and outdoor pursuits, encouraging teamwork, resilience, and a love for the outdoors. And we also focus on performing arts, allowing children to build confidence show their creativity.

Our holistic approach to learning and development, as well as specialised verbal and non-verbal reasoning training, allows us to equip all our pupils with the skills needed for external examinations. We are incredibly proud of the results our children achieve every year.

We are constantly striving to enhance the experience we offer our children and this effort is consistently reflected in our inspection results since the school opened over 40 years ago. In our most recent inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in February 2023, once again we achieved the highest possible grade of 'Excellent' across all areas.

The report highlighted our commitment to fostering excellent progress in knowledge, skills, and understanding for our pupils, all thanks to our knowledgeable and supportive staff.

The recent Good Schools Guide noted that we are ‘a family-owned school delivering superb academic results in a homely, nurturing environment’.

The experience we strive for at our school was summed up beautifully in the report by one of our parents who said; “It takes a village to raise a child, and Hale Prep is very much the village you want to raise your child.”
