Science

HPS - Science Curriculum Aims

  • A high-quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.
  • Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils are encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.
  • Children are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave and analyse causes.
  • Specialist science teachers deliver all science lessons throughout the academic year.

At HPS, through the specialist teaching of science in fully equipped designated facilities, we encourage our pupils to appreciate our world's complexity and delve further into its unique properties. The children are instructed to follow the standard scientific reporting protocols, including mathematical/graphical data. Other opportunities arise whereby they can, for example, write biographies or news reports to convey and share their understanding. We endeavour to provide the children with experiences that will ignite a passion for working to the best of their ability, ethically and diligently, in their future chosen careers. At HPS, we enhance our science provision by introducing aspirational role models to the children and organising visits to inspirational vocations.
